Pre-Groom Check
Before anything starts, the groomer does a quick assessment: coat condition, presence of mats, skin condition, ear health, and overall demeanor. This helps the groomer plan the approach — especially important for first-time dogs or dogs with anxiety.
The Bath
A full groom always starts with a bath using professional dog shampoo appropriate for the coat type. Conditioner follows for dogs with longer coats. The bath softens the coat, loosens the undercoat, and prepares the fur for cutting. A good rinse is critical — leftover product irritates skin.
Drying
High-velocity dryers blast the coat dry while simultaneously blowing out loose fur — especially important for double-coated breeds. This stage can dramatically reduce the amount of shedding in the weeks following the appointment.
The Cut and Styling
After drying, the groomer scissors and/or clips the coat according to breed standard or the owner’s requested style. Face, paws, and sanitary trim follow. Nails are trimmed. Ears are cleaned. The appointment concludes with a finishing spray or spritz.
